About the project
This webpage is part of the project “Climate Crisis and Affect: An Investigation of Embodied Emotions and Behaviours Regarding Climate Change in Iceland”, supported by the Icelandic Research Council (RANNÍS), 2024-2027 (project grant: 2410486-051), led by postdoctoral researcher Ole Martin Sandberg at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Iceland. One work package in this the research project is to establish a network for climate. This webpage is meant to facilitate that network.
Project description
This research project conducts process-philosophical and affect-theoretical research into the interacting aspects of climate change, biodiversity, and society, with the aim of integrating research across different fields in order to improve communication on climate change in Iceland. It aims to investigate the relations between the climate crisis and human emotions – how we are affected by the dire prospects of a heating planet and how our affective states impact our abilities to take meaningful climate actions. It furthermore aims at building a transdisciplinary network of researchers and communicators to improve education, communication, and policy on climate change in Iceland. The project will develop cooperation between philosophers at the University of Iceland, biologists at the Icelandic Museum of Natural History, and environmental humanists and communicators at the University’s Research Centre Hornafjörður to integrate science and the humanities in an approach to tackle the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, biodiversity loss, and the transformation of our relation to nature.
Verkefnalýsing
Þetta rannsóknarverkefni notar ferlaheimspeki og hrifkenningu til að greina samspil hamfarahlýnunar, líffræðilegrar fjölbreytni og samfélags, með það að markmiði að samþætta rannsóknir á ólíkum sviðum til að auka þekkingu og bæta samskipti um loftslagsbreytingar á Íslandi. Verkefnið miðar að því að kanna tengsl loftslagskreppunnar og mannlegra tilfinninga – hvernig við verðum fyrir áhrifum af skelfilegum horfum hlýnandi plánetu og hvernig þessi reynsla mótar getu okkar til að grípa til þýðingarmikilla loftslagsaðgerða. Í verkefninu verður enn fremur byggt upp þverfaglegt net vísindamanna til að bæta menntun, samskipti og stefnu um loftslagsbreytingar á Íslandi. Verkefnið byggir á samstarfi heimspekinga við Háskóla Íslands, líffræðinga á Náttúruminjasafni Íslands og umhverfishúmanista og sérfræðinga í sjónrænni miðlun hjá Rannsóknasetri Háskóla Íslands á Hornafirði. Þannig verða vísindi og hugvísindi samþætt til að takast á við brýnustu viðfangsefni samtímans: loftslagsbreytingar, tap líffræðilegrar fjölbreytni og umbreytingu á tengslum okkar við náttúruna.
