A new documentary focusing on Iceland’s aquatic ecosystems will premiere at Nordic House in Reykjavík on June 11 at 19:00, in collaboration with the organisation Seeds.
The film, Julien Looks Under Things: Under Iceland’s Waters, has been created by French-Canadian filmmaker Julien Nayet-Pelletier, known for the online nature series Julien Looks Under Things. The project examines wildlife found in Icelandic rivers and coastal waters, ranging from microscopic organisms to larger marine species, while also exploring environmental challenges affecting these ecosystems.
The documentary features contributions from artists, scientists, science communicators, and activists based in Iceland. It highlights both environmental pressures and ongoing conservation efforts connected to Icelandic waters. It addresses climate change and pollution alongside scientific and artistic approaches aimed at protecting vulnerable habitats.
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a panelist discussion with the director of the movie, Julien Nayet-Pelletier, and collaborators such as Ragnhildur Katla, communication specialist at LANDVERND, and Sæunn Sigurjónsdóttir, co-founder of the Icelandic hub for Sustainable Ocean Alliance.
